Janusz Kotlewski - studio of the artist Born in 1966, lives and works in Lodz. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland. He gained a master's degree from the study of Professor Wojciech Sadley in 1994.

Janusz Kotlewski is fascinated by the art of various periods and regions. He gets out from these sources in order to create his inimitable painting. He is interested in trends connected with op-art, American color field painting, he is also inspired by the Aboriginal painting. He refers to Polish constructivism and postimpressionism in his artistic achivements as well. There is no commentary, ideology or void decorativness in his paintings. There are struggles with form, experiments with texture, colour, technique and material.

The main aspect of Janusz Kotlewski's works is the spiritual element, internal space of a human being which can be developed by art in a unique manner. The inspiration in quest for his own character of this space he finds in the art of different periods, starting from prehistorical art, the art of primitive communities (art of Aborigines), up to modern and contemporary art (Poussin, Kandinsky, Klee, Rothko) nad Polish art (Strzeminski, Cybis, Fangor, Fijalkowski).

Courageous, atypical parallels astonish in the colouring of his paintings. He withdraws from common painter's techniques. Apart from traditional oil paint, used by the artist extremely rarely nowadays, he employs acrylic paints and varnishes which give the painting different character than classic oil. As for used materials he simply moves to the scope of building materials continuously experimenting with atypical materials and textures.
